June is the most exciting month as many schools reopen after summer vacation in India. Children get excited to go to school to meet their friends. While the excitement comes with a few challenges, mothers are no exception in handling them.
So, here are five lessons that you should learn and unlearn with your child during the back-to-school time.
Five Lessons to Learn
Here are the five interesting lessons to learn and get prepared to face the challenges ahead.
- Change is Good: Understand that your child is growing every year. Therefore, you need not repeat the previous year’s Gyan(the set of household rules) as the child will be aware of them. Trust me; Children are more responsible when they know that we care for them. So, here change is good. You may now bring a new school-home routine by editing the previous year’s routine. It will help you focus on your child’s growth in the upcoming months.
- Stay Updated: Although mothers have an “infinite” number of chores in life, staying updated on the child’s curriculum and syllabus is equally important. Every week spare at least 3-4 hours with your child and try to learn their syllabus. Learning is the only way to stay updated in today’s educational model.
- Be open to facing a challenge: Every day may not be the same. So, be prepared to face new challenges. On a busy day, your child might need your help with the science project. Don’t hesitate to try to help your child. You are not just completing the science project and also setting an example of how to face challenges in life for your child.
- Follow to grow: “A child is the master of the world”. All we need to do is allow the space(protected& under parental supervision) for the child to explore new subjects and ideas. In the Montessori method, this is the first guideline given to parents from the school. We need not instruct the child what to do, but we need to provide an environment where they learn how and what to do. You can explore the Montessori home practice and try to implement it.
- Be the Doer: It is always easy for us to say, “come, grab your homework note and start writing”. But can we redefine this to build the confidence and intelligence of our child? So, how does one achieve it? Instead of saying, grab your office work or any journal. Start working in a dedicated time (speaking of regular homework time for your child) and see if the little one also will follow your path. We are aware that actions speak more than words. Be the doer and see the changes in your life. I have experienced the joy of seeing my young one sitting beside me and saying he is working just like me. So, it is worth the try!
